hi al, im no electrician but i changed the previous downlights today. Previously they had a transformer and now straight 240v.
Anyway all i did was just remove the transformers and put all the wires in the new lights. hope your still with me.:snore:
My question is' all the wires you see in the pictures are they legal for a 5 year cert cause im rentin the house out or do the need to be put in a like juction box. many thanks. (need any help with your floors give me a shout)

whoever installed them like that was a cowboy. replace those choc blocs with suitable connectors in enclosures. line connectors with wagos inside, or clikfit connectors.

Even ELV cables should be in an enclosure . You really need to get that lot sorted out, get a local sparky to do it for you , He will know what is required. This type of lighting runs quite hot and can easily damage cables, especially if they are unprotected like that.

thanks for the advice, i will but this is why a couple of weeks ago i asked how you choose an electrician, this guy came highly recommened, as soon as i looked in the attic today i new it was a bodge job. this is 11 year old work by the way

You need to rattle his cage then.(if you still know his whereabouts). That job is an abortion, Though sadly not uncommon.

You could put the connections on chock boxes save making all the cables off again
always assuming that the existing connections are good, then just fitting a choc box around them would be the easiest option. however, seeing the abortion the previous guy made3 at the lights, what's it like further upstream?
