hi al, im no electrician but i changed the previous downlights today. Previously they had a transformer and now straight 240v.
Anyway all i did was just remove the transformers and put all the wires in the new lights. hope your still with me.:snore:
My question is' all the wires you see in the pictures are they legal for a 5 year cert cause im rentin the house out or do the need to be put in a like juction box. many thanks. (need any help with your floors give me a shout)

If the light is more than 2.25 m above the bath or shower (from floor level) then it needs no IP rating (though it should be recessed into the ceiling if above a shower). Within zones 1 and 2 it should be IPX4 rated (Regulation 701.55 (xi)), but outside zones, as telectrix said, it doesn't actually need a rating.

but there's no harm in fitting IP65. also, if i fit IP rated downlights within zones 1 or 2, i use the same ones outside the zones, just so they are all the same.

the ones i detest are those where you are supposed to be able to twist a GU10 lamp in by supergueing your fingers to the front of the lamp. as that's the only accessible part without removing the fitting from the ceiling and bringing down paint and plaster with it.
