hi all,

help needed

i have been asked to replace some downlights in a kitchen and utility but the ones that are there must have been fitted in the 80s and are about 150mm in diameter, leaving a big hole, is the any adapter plates out there that take the newer smaller downlights but will fill the old holes ???????

or is it a re-plasterboard and skim job

They are out there as I have used them on a previous install. Bought from my local wholesaler, sorry I can't remember manufacturer but I just asked behind the counter.

Sometimes when those old lights come out it makes a right mess of the ceiling, especially if there's been a lot of vapour dragged up by convection. I am always heavy on the caveats with this work, but there are plenty of creative ways out of a mess. Most wholesalers will have adapters, but they do have limitations.

Ive used the ansel acp ones...simple enough...I'd recommend them...

generally find that they come with a choice of lamp holders, GU10 and MR16.

i've used the Bell converter kits in the past, they were easy to install and look pretty good when you've finished up!

I haven't had to, had to quote for a job for them but customer decided over-boarding and re-skimming would look better in their shiny new kitchen!

On this subject, does anyone know if these spotlight-downlight converters are available in a shower-rated IP65 version?
