drill thru multiple studs to run wire

I like to run wire above the ceiling of the garage (above it is a bedroom) but there are quite many studs about 2 feet apart in the way. Would it be better to run wires thru electrical conduit that is visible on the ceiling (look ugly) OR just drill all these studs to hide the wires (ROMEX). My goal is to install recessed LED lights which mounts flush with the ceiling.
There is already a regular light bulb fixture on the ceiling, it will be removed but the circuit will be used to feed the recessed lights.

Not sure what the regulations around fire proofing are over there. As an example we use firehoods over downlights if there is an inhabitable room above the garage.

I am not sure either, however, there is already a layer of fire proofing material (silver color) between the ceiling sheetrock and the floor above.

how deep are the studs? in the UK we call then joists. here studs are the vertical timbers in partition walls.

The stud is pretty tall, I did not measure it but it could be 10" or 12". The recessed light is 3.2" high including its metal junction box. It does not need a cylinder housing like the old style. Here are the dimensions:

drillm them then. here our regs stipulate > 2" from top or bottom (to prevent nails/screws hitting cables) and to be pedantic between 0.25 and 0.4 of the span, with at least 1.5 x the hole size as spacing between holes. however can't see you wakening joists that size with a few 1" holes.

Thanks for your recommendation. I will need to use the special 7 feet long drill bit dedicated for this type of work.

Please see update in my other thread "Why low voltage (40 V) at outlet". The root cause is open ground, not open neutral due to the light wiring (power source is at the light)
