It may seem like a silly question but please confirm for me what i am sying several client design team members are requesting a drinks vending machine 230vis to be sited outside the front entrance of a petrol station they wanted a socket out there for it i informed them this is not posssible under our registration however they now intend for the builder to drill through the wall and they fit!!!!!
I have told them the unit cannot sit out there because of the spark and flamability of the petrol is not correct

1.i am not putting an ip socket out there definately.

But also the unit cannot sitout there either

I know a couple of decades ago when I was on contract in the US, every gas station South of the Mason Dixon line had at least one refrigerated Coke machine standing on the forecourt running on an extension lead. Maybe this has changed now though, who knows.

I would say if you installed a socket that's compliant with the relevant regs then what they plug into it is their responsibility not yours. As an installation electrician you responsibility would end with the socket. I assume they would have somebody PAT testing who would warn about inappropriate appliances.

Well I know compressors get hot, but not that hot. Drinks machines on the other hand :D

Thing is on a Petrol forecourt the Machine getting warm is'nt going to be the issue, the possibility of Sparks is. I've seen a lot more compressors go bang & cause sparks than vending machines & yet you can site a Compressor or Cash point on the forecourt within 2 - 3 metres of the pumps.
Really does'nt make any sense. Nowadays too a lot of Forecourts have Vacuum cleaners & Car washes on them. Before saying no you can't have it i'd be having a good chat with the Licencing body to see what the rules are.

there are ZONES on a PFS forecourt like there are in a bathroom 1,2,3 ect and with out seeing the layout of each proposed installation then there is no cumulative YES or NO answer best get your self on a course
by SAFETY PASS ALLAIANCE its done by various providers and covers work on PFS forecourts its also done in conjunction with the petrol retailers alliance
I did mine through CBES 08456740017 Its a good course and essencial to work on PFS if the PFS manager or owner doesnt ask for the card they shouldnt be running a PFS it has different parts iv got the basic part but there are further parts
