Dear all tech people
i am trying to build a driver blinking detection system with the aid of infrared. i have come up with a idea of a block diagram for this and my circuit has no software involved. the infrared emitter emits low light infrared towards the eye and the detector detects the length of the blink before the driver goes into micro sleep. so if the person blink is longer than 2.1 seconds the alarm should go off. i am having difficulty with the actual circuit design and how to gain values as i am not an electronic or electrical engineering student but if any of you guys can help me with this i would be very very grateful. i have attached the block diagram. please correct me if im wrong and hope it helps!
thank you

I'm intrigued to know how you are intending to detect eye movement, rather than general facial movement using the IR transceiver. If you don't want to give any specific details away that's fine, but a general idea would be good.
Also, what are you comparing against with the comparators?

I suspect you're wasting your time then. Reliably discriminating between eye blinks and false flag events is potentially a complex problem. But good luck anyway.

I'm hoping he's got a reliable way of detecting the blinks already, otherwise there's absolutely no point working out how to get the alarm side of things working. Daz

His block diagram starts with an infrared transceiver element not an RBDM (Reliable Blink Detection Module:)) so I don't think he does.

Also the system will give a false alarm while being attacked by Weeping Angels.

Presume your trying to design an alarm, which triggers when a driver nods off at the wheel, you can used the white of the eye to reflect ir, but keeping the eye, head or even body in the correct position, is going to be you main challenge....2 inventions already in production, are hard shoulder bumps, and a jazzy pair of glasses which buzz if you nod off

Great idea, but isn't a camera with facial recognition software better than an infrared system?

Agree with Tazz - the lining up with the eye is going to be a nightmare, unless the device is fixed to your head. Better using a computer system to track the pupil. I reckon the OP has bitten off more than he can chew here. But to be fair, lets see how far he's got. When he gets back to us. Daz

I've invented a solenoid operated road system that jabs you in the side every 10 minutes to keep you awake. Daz

Where did the post go that said something like 'why is this being asked on an electrician's forum?' ?? Daz

Give you an idea which my help without software, but how to reflect the ir youll have think abaut that one.......555 ic pulsing ir evey 2 secs, ir photo transistor, resetting a 4017 counter, every time it receives 2 sec ir.......if 4017ic does not receive ir to reset in error margin of say 4sec, the 4017 will continue to count and go into alarm....
