Duel fuel cooker - electrical connection

A

ALH

We are getting a dual fuel cooker. Have ascertained where the gas bayonet needs to be in relation to the gas connection at the rear of the cooker and would like advice as to where I need to cut out the wall for a cooker outlet plate. Should
this be on the same side as the gas bayonet or at the opposite side?

Electrician coming tomorrow to fit new cooker switch etc.

Thanks,
Al

first you need to know how the electrical connection to the cooker needs to be made. some come with a 13Aplug fitted, some are hard wired to a dedicated circuit. need more info' before answering question

your outlet needs to be anywhere behind the cooker. it is normal practice to feed 6mm to a 45A switch above the worktop, no more than 2 metres from the cooker, but no closer than 300mm. then to a connection unit behind the cooker suitable for approx . 1m - 1.5m 6mm cable to cooker.

check your kWatt rating of the cooker, convert it to amps. e.g. 10kW = 42A. then use diversity. 10A + 30% of remainder, in this case 32A, so load to calculate cable is 10 + 10.7 = 20.7A, so well in on 6mm. on a 32A MCB. ( add 5A if cooker point incorporates a socket outlet.)

Well the electrician let me down - no phone call, no reply to voicemail. This is the fourth time in the last couple of months that the same thing has happened, including a plumber. I can understand people opting for a higher paid job if it crops up, but a phone call would at least have saved me some preparation.

The annoying thing is that I feel quite capable of doing this job myself!

No excuse for the courtesy of a simple phone call, even if he had renaged on his commitment
Where are you located?
There have been quite a few job issues satisfied by engaging a member from this site

If that member then lets you down,we could verbally lynch him :)

There are members from Swansea on this site
If I was going down there for the day, I'd do it for you,but a little out of my way sorry
Its typical that it had to be a Welsh spark,we tend to let ourselves down with many things

I would suggest starting a new thread in the Electricians unite section asking for a Swansea spark you will surely be rewarded
