That's Battersea Power Station in pic 3.
We sneaked in there in the 80s, via the coal ramp I think.
We were looking for a tunnel entrance under the river that was supposed to be there, didn't find it.
The place was probably riddled with asbestos, we ended up going through some kind of deconantimation area...started opening some roller doors, saw someones legs outside so we hoofed it back inside.

the site where the kirkstall powerstation was still is riddled with it Archy.....you can see it blowing around....lol...

battersea powerstation is i believe a listed building, someone will eventually develop there but the chimneys have to stay,i was born in SW11 not far from there.Just amazes me the sheer magnitude of what the great industrial era could create, real engineering.

well as far as i`m aware....it was built in 2 stages......the station itself started out with 2 chimneys and one large turbine hall...the boiler section together with associated plant was doubled in size after the war....2 more chimneys were added together with another turbine hall to create the image we see today....

I always thought it had been converted by now to a sports centre or something?
So it has been derelict since the mid 80s?
well the turbine halls have been undercover....the boiler room however has been open to the elements for a long time now....i heard that one of the control rooms was to be restored to as it would have been in the 30s when it first went on line...

Down near the Abbey?

Didn't blow up as far as Rawdon then, my birthplace.
What a pit that was!
gotts park got the worst of the flyash from kirkstall powerstation Archy.....
it was origionally built as a private enterprise....it had wooden cooling towers and 10 metal chimneys....
the concrete cooling towers and twin chimneys went up after the war....
it was chosen as an experimental for oil firing....just in time for the suez crisis...lol..
the burners were returned to coal firing sharpish...lol...

We were posh, living west of Leeds!
I vaguely remember going to Armley Jail once, not as an inmate before you start.
Parents were in the Law business.
well you would have had a view over gotts park and down to the powerstation from there Archy....
i vaguely remember it as a kid when i used to travel on the number 50A bus from horsforth into town...it took the hawksworth run...then down through vesper gate onto kirkstall road....and thus past the powerstation which was on the right as you faced leeds city centre....
remember em pullin it down....

Doesn't need to be right now - within a month would be OK. I have tenants at the house, but they are really friendly and helpful.
