re sited and changed aconsumer unit from an old wylex re wireable to a new split board with mcbs and an rccb protecting part of the buzbar all transfered ok except shower (8.5kw triton) on a 40amp breaker powered up fine pul swich on shower working ok but try to increase load ie turn up the shower and the rccd trips not the mcb sounds like earth leakage ? asuming the cables are installed in the correct neutrals and earths on the board need advice urgent it was fine on the old system however but the new one is far more sensitive what can i do any idea's Phil sheriton
 
Sounds more like a fault with the heating element.

So in answer to your question, i would say there is earth leakage, hence the RCD tripping when the element reaches a certain temp.

Also, if you have just changed the CU, all circuits should now be protected by RCD, including the lighting so in effect the CU should have been a dual RCD type.

Not necessarily, depends on type of wiring it could be in conduit or BS8436 cable.
