Hi Again

Can anyone tell me how i can do an earth test on a kettle with no element in side and nothing to clip test lead to please?
I cant leave it out, can i?

thanks

If you can't clip the wander lead onto something, hold it onto something metallic.
I would say be careful when you're doing the IR test but if the sides were metallic you'd be able to clip onto it.

re. limescale. those kettle descalers just don't work. brick acid ( HCl ) from builders' merchants, ÂŁ4.60 for 5l. cuts the mustard on limescale.

Check on the bottom of the kettle whether it tells you to remove a screw to carry out the earth bond test. I've come across this before (can't remember what brand).

Are you testing at 25A? If you try to do a soft test then it will probably fail.
Personally I wouldn't go pouring hydrochloric acid, vinegar, mustard or whatever in there to try to improve the reading, I'd just chip a bit off to do the test, otherwise fail it - a kettle isn't much use if it's too full of limescale to heat the water up.

great for putting down the toilet, and wiping round the bathroom with, does hurt the hands a bit.

anyway, the kettle is strictly the concern of 'er indoors. i never mess with it.
