Am using a Robin KMP 4118DL loop/PSC tester
I have a generator and i want to earth it to the large metal building i'm next too at a earthing point, it should be a perfect earth with loads of earth points all over.
I want to test that the earth so i've run the generator connected live and neutral on the geny ran a cable too the earth point and connected testers earth to it, yet all it reads is 190 volts and won't perform the test.
I've not used this type of tester before, the earth point should be perfect i guess i'm going to have to run a bloody great earth lead to the earth board round the corner ( i'm on a vast expanse of concrete).
Generator is not connected to anything yet.
Tester was tested just a few months ago i've tested it on other tests and seems fine just not the earth electrode.
Have i set something up wrong with this type ?

You say you have run a cable to the building earth point, then mention running a bloody great earth lead to an earth board.
What is providing the earth path between the building earth point and the genny at present, what is the voltage produced by the genny, as measured between line and neutral?

Voltage at genny is fine 240 volts.
The earth is a seperate point connected to the steel structure of the building (and a electrode) but there is a larger earth point around the corner at the oppersite corner of the building at the buildings distribution boards again this is connected to the steel structure of the building and is grounded via incoming supply so the point i've connected to should be fine. (its all locked off i'm not allowed inside that bit but the guys were here less than two months ago and checked everything)
I think its more to do with the tester set up than the genny earth set up set up but i can't get any info on it.(the tester) it is old but want to suss out reasons for it so i can justify a up date

okay have connect to genny to the other earth and tested the earth this side of the building and i get a loop so the earth this side is connected to the entire earth system.
Confirm with me i have one lead on the live one on the neutral and one on the earth that is only connected to the earth point
