hi guys.

can anyone please post or point me in the right direction of a model answer for earth electrode testing ? i have lost my previous paper with the model answer on (idiot). i obviously have GN3 to hand but i would prefer to study a model answer.

cheers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:icon14:

The 'model' answer is in GN3, just look it up and learn it. There are 2 acceptable methods, it is far easier to describe the easiest of the 2 methods in any exam paper.

There wont be a model answer as such, but the description in GN3 covers all the relevant points that you need to mention, using the correct terminology, in the right order and so on, just do it in your own words if you see what i mean.

Cheers............Howard

cheers for your replies. i was just being lazy i suppose !

Yep, you can't afford to be lazy when out on site......

The best way to learn this is to try each method for real.
1/ Loop tester method, relatively easy, isolate disconnect and test
2/ Earth resistance method. this one is where you can have a bit of fun placing your test electrodes at different points, doing the calculations and checking for compliance. There are variations on a theme here. Lets say you have no place to drive in your electrodes because the whole area around the building is tarmacked ?

There is an excellent little book printed by Megger called Down to Earth. Shows you all the variations and gives you an insight to what measuring the earth path is all about.
