Went to do an inspection job today for a guy that had just had his consumer unit changed by a non part p sparky. I found that there was no earth connected at all, he had just connected the CU to an empty earth terminal and that was it ( no other bonding either ). It was a TT system and i found an old damaged earth rod outside with a piece of 10mm shoved in the top ( no clamp) and the other end tucked behind the CU. I have put a new earth rod in and connected as it should be but I dont own an earth rod tester. I basically just tested the Ze with my multifunction and got 40ohm. I know this is well within the recommended 200ohm for TT but should i have tested the earth rod itself or will the Ze test do?
