Sorry E54 - couldn't resist!

So... need to put some temporary rods in for temp supplies, unexpectedly, in a hurry. Wholesaler only has 1 x 5/8ths and 2 3/8ths, OK says me that'll have to do.

RCD protected supplies and no bonding, so arguably they don't even need to be there at all (TNCS available), and it's just for a week to run 110V gear so 'I'm not overly bothered about the finer points'.

Can't bang them fully down either as there's all sorts underground in the area where they can only sensibly be put. So each is down roughly 3' a piece, into the same turned over, rubble mess of what's passing for soil now. The two 3/8ths are about a meter apart and the 5/8 is about five metres up the way and slightly deeper in.

Ze's were 172, 6 and 2 ohms. Which was which??

I'm reckoning the first 3/8ths rod skimmed the sheath of the DNO incoming cable and gave you the 2 ohms, the second 3/8ths rod went straight through the main soil drain and gave 6 ohms and the 5/8ths rod was too far away to hit any services and only gave you 172 ohms.....and with that I'm logging out for a while until the dust settles ;)

The rods that are a metre apart will be influencing each other (overlapping Zones of influence)!! Other than that Who Knows?? it will depend on too many factors. But i'll have a stab, the 2 and 6 ohm readings off the 2 3/8'' rods, ...Otherwise you wouldn't have involved me in answering!! lol!!

Ooh....you just might be right! Came as a bit of a surprise, tbh. And I was expecting the overlapping zones, although I must confess that I've never fully understood them!
