hi guys,
just a quick question for somebody.
the other day when i was glanding an s.w.a at both ends i was told that it was wrong and that you where only meant to gland one end off the swa as if you gland both ends you are creating a ring?? is this true or can some one help me out

i have heard this before, i was told that when doing a tt system on site temps, u are only supposed to earth the supply end of the cable so that under a fault you wouldnt create a potential on other cabins. i think its best to earth the lot, then you allways have a path to earth. but i dont know

swa should be glanded both ends ,only a qualified elec. eng. can instruct you to gland only one end.
current rating from cable manufaturers are given with both ends glanded

yours benji

you can use flylead. Some glandplates in industrial eqt are threaded, so you do not need to use a banjo. You can also scrape away the paint on the metal enclosure you are glanding to and then bolt the banjo to the accessory. if yo do this, then make sure you paint any exposed metalwork after you have glanded the cable, to stop corrosion.

You only need to earth the gland at both ends if you are using the armour as the CPC, however you must always earth the armouring at at least one end. There is nothing wrong with earthing at both ends even if your using an internal core or a seperate cable as the earth, The exception to this would be when running a supply and having a TT installation at the end, in which case you need to make sure that there is no earth connection between the supply and the TT side.

ya assuming there's a separate cpc you complete the parallel fault path with the banjo at both ends-no harm done

i think best banjo if boards are metal anyhow

-except for the 'conversion to tt ' scenario

hi guys just a bit extra to my question earlier. if i was to supply a garage/shed beside a house with a swa cable. would the garage be part of a tt system?? should i bury an extra earth rod at the garage?? i would have a seperate cu in the garage too. in the past i have glanded both sides of the swa and would have an internal earth inside the swa. i dont bury an other earth rod is this ok?
