Earthing

I've run an earth 10mm to main water supply in house and there is currently no seperate earths run to bathrooms. All circuits are rcd protected and when i checked continuity at sink pipes using flying lead the reading was fine but when i checked at the shower there wasn't any continuity. Checked above the shower and noticed some of the pipes were plastic. I've been told by someone now that I need to run a seperate earth to the shower?? Is this correct?

There should be continuity between the cpc at the shower and the met. If not, a seperate earth is needed. If all circuits in the bathroom are rcd protected, then no need for supplementary bonding.

Hi, steve, thanks for your reply. I should have stated it ain't an electric shower and that it was not the shower I tested but the shower copper pipes. Sorry about that. Does this change anything?

If all circuits in the bath/shower room are RCD protected,and max disconnection times are met,and you have a continuity reading of <1667 ohms between conductive parts within the bath/shower room and metallic pipes entering the bath/shower room you do not need to supplementary bond. If metallic pipes within the bath/shower room are supplied by plastic pipes there is no need to bond.There is no requirement for continuity to any other pipes/sinks etc outside of a special location as defined in section 7 of the BRB other than main bonding incoming services......all of this can be found in the OSG.

As far as i can see the pipes are plastic in the loft to above the shower where they are changed to copper. I think (not sure) the pipework before plastic is copper as well, if that makes any sense? Seems to be this part was done in plastic as it would have been a pain for copper pipework to be put in that angle. Is this normally a done thing?
