Economy 7 aga?

Hi,
a customer has just approached me asking about installing a economy 7 range aga.
Has anyone come across one of these and are they worth it?
im guessing it will require its normal 24hr 30a supply, but wondering what type of supply it will need for the economy supply? And a one circuit c/u (eco7 c/u) for this aga alone?

If any one could provided me with anymore info that would be great? And is eco7 worth it now a days? As I have mostly only removed storage heaters.

I did one a little while ago. 32A supply on the normal CU and then had to setup a 1 way CU for the Off-peak - think it was only a 6A circuit! Apparently the 6A supply is used to 'switch' the heating on when economy 7 starts.

Customer seems pleased!

is economy 7 worth it anymore? Are tariffs as worth while as they used to be?

I only ask ask as the client will have to get a new meter etc installed, as no existing eco7.

I had a customer with an economy 7 aga and they were not happy, the aga was meant to store the heat overnight for use during the day but if you have the top plates they lose heat so fast it was cold after breakfast (maybe not that bad but no use in the evening).

If you use more than 40% (I think) of your power requirements overnight then economy 7 is a viable choice, and obviously using a greater percentage is better.
Unless you have storage heaters it is unlikely that you will use enough power over night to make it worthwhile.
Though careful use of timer switches for other loads to run overnight, such as washing machines, can tip the balance.

I think that there are hundreds of E7 users who are paying more because of E7, not less, the day rate unit price hike really makes a difference.

Based on power consumption the energy supplier should be able to advise what is best.

I know when I start removing storage heaters I tell the customer to switch from E7!

a combined meter that logs different rates at different times on the same supply might be beneficial but,

i think a modern gas boiler and decent rad setup would be more efficient or even electric oil filled heaters
