ECS Card

Let's say I wanted to apply for an ECS card in the future to open the avenues for employment as a trainee - all stages require employer's sponsorship. How would that work in my case? If I find employment and they are happy for me to apply for a ECS after taking me on, that requirement would be fulfilled. However, if I was trying to pick up agency work (which ALL seem to need ECS) then how would I apply without employer sponsorship.

Unless I'm reading it wrong, it totally seems like a case of what came first, the chicken or the egg?

When I first applied for mine, I was self employed, so left the employer's section and the sponsor section blank.

No it wasn't, though I had no idea at the time what would be issued.

register on hmrc as self employed for self assement tax

put yourself down as the employer if you like and job done ( do it online it quicker turn around)

your after an ecs card (ecs is the electrical version of the cscs card)

Your training provider or college can get you a card depending on your level, the company who are supplying my training have offered us card applications which they will sign up.
