Hi,
I have bachelor degree in electrical engineering(its foreign but recognized by NARIC as British) also I just passed 17th edition. Can I apply for ECS Gold card and which one.
Thank you.

With those qualifications ECS will not issue a gold card.
They have specific qualifications that are recognised and required to receive the appropriate card.
Below is a list from the ECS website that details the qualifications required.
Generally you need to have done the core qualifications and the NVQ3 to get a gold card.

Why would an Electrical Engineer want to hold a JIB electricians card??

Thing is I used to work as an electrical engineer but at the moment there is a gap in my career. So I thought if I get that card will be advantageous cos at the moment I'm looking for any job within electrical side to get back on track.
I still can't understand why I have to do NVQ if I'm a graduate engineer.

no u will not get gold j.i.b card lol, if u can I will just get a lvl 3 in catering and apply for gold card lol
I still cant get it what are the system in this country. Can you explain me whats beter graduate electrical engineering diploma or NVQ. Sound like when you finished school you are in higher level than those how finished uni.

although my answer was tongue and cheek why would a decent electrical engineer not want one?

I know it was a tongue in cheek post, so was mine!! lol!!

However to answer the above, it's because an Electrical Engineer isn't a working tradesmen and therefore doesn't and wouldn't need a JIB/SJIB card or be remotely interested in holding one. Far more likely for an Electrical Engineer to be a member of a recognised institute such as ITE or CIBS. A decent Engineer would be far more interested in becoming a Chartered Engineer (CEng) of those Institutes. Certainly wouldn't be interested in holding a JIB/SJIB electricians card, Approved or otherwise.

a fast track to becoming an approved electrician? please let me know so I can abandon this trade in that instance....

Wow, you guys are a tough crowd. I wouldn't consider a bachelors degree in electrical engineering as a 'fast track' route.

Hello and welcome. My view on this is as follows: You have the technical/scientific knowledge but the ECS may doubt that you have the hands on experience of an electrician. I'm sure that you'll agree when I say that what you learn in a class room does not give you practical skills to call yourself a fully qualified electrician

Your qualified to a higher level but it is not as an electrician. It is a bit like an Architect and a Qualified Bricklayer. The Architect knows all the theory of construction but he could not build a house... Well he probably could but he would be learning the practical skills as he went along.
