JIB Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) Ecs & jib

Discuss Ecs & jib in the Electrician Courses : Electrical Quals area at ElectriciansForums.net

I have got 17th edition, NVQ 3, 2360 part 1 and failed 1 exam on part 2, never had chance to retake which I regret! But from this can I apply for a JIB card and if so what grade will I get? Been a spark for 9 years never had the need to get a JIB all ways had a CSCS.

Can anyone advise me please, I want to apply to get an ecs card, I have been an electrician for 23 years, self employed for 12 of those years, my qualifications are c&g 2360 part 1, am1, am2, HND in musical instrument technology and a degree in audio music technology, certificate for 17th addition with amendment one, certificate for 2391 test and inspect.
Can I get a ecs card with these qualifications? If you repley with some good advise it will be much appreciated, Thanks

Hi Whaler,

As you have achieved your 236 parts one and two before 1996 you should not need to complete your NVQ etc but you will need to take your ECS test (about ÂŁ40) and once completed you should be able to apply to JIB and get your gold card. You should go on ecs website and complete an application form, they will let you know where your nearest centre is where you can sit the test http://www.ecscard.org.uk/ecs_health_and_safety_test.aspx

You would also be advised to contact the JIB and explain that you have your 236 pre 96 and confirm the above with them as well just to be on safe side.

Hi All,

Even with their guides, it's not as simple as it seems. The last thing I want to do is pay the JIB the money to only get turned down, or downgraded, because you don't fit their criteria properly. They have told me they won't tell you your grade via email etc...

I done my electrical apprenticeship back in 1987 and done this via a YTS scheme and a 4-year college course of City and Guilds 2320 pts 1,2,3.

The only thing I have to say about the apprenticeship is the certificate from my company and my C & G's stuff.

I do have the 17th edition and will happily get the JIB H&S but don't want to do this if what I have isn't good enough for their gold card.

Does anyone have any advice on this?

I have 2330 level 2 , 3 and 17 th edition regs, if I did a Ecs test and applied for my Jib card could I get Jib graded ?

I have those qualifications plus 2392-10 test/inspection/verification and could only get graded as 'electrical labourer'. White card with 'ancillary operative' on a brown strip at bottom.

This thead is over a year old mate I would of hoped he had already figured it out by now lol

I'd hope so too. They don't make it the easiest thing to get you're head around though. I learnt it was easier to email them listing current certs, if your enrolled/working towards one and if you're working in an electrical job currently. They promptly reply with the apropriate grade.

I just saw this thread at the top, not realising it was a sticky. Got side tracked. I came on to see about CV's as I've just had to do my 1st ever. Not an enjoyable experiance!

So are you a Trainee at the moment? if so ask the team for access to the Trainee section.

Thanks bud. I am indeed. Got all technical certs (L2+3 2330,2382-12,2392-10) ECS & CSCS cards, PTS card, first aid, MEWP.

I got 6 months part time electrical experience after college. Then got a rope access job for a year and a half to get my IRATA L2 and savings to cover the pay cut when I move to electrical work.

Now it's time to find an electricians mate job so I can get bridging units of NVQ L3 done.

Fingers crossed!:6:
