How should a failed EICR be followed up by the contractor and/or the client?

Well, by follow up I mean who polices that remedial action is carried out? Then after that does the original test and inspection contractor re test only that remedial work, or has a completely new inspection report required?

No One polices it. Quite simply there is no need to have anything done, It is up to the customer to decide whether they want remedials, end of.

You report on the state of the installation, then it's up to the client to decide what they want to do. Hopefully you will get the remedial work. You only retest the work you carry out not a full EICR again.

Two scenarios:-

1. If the client ignores the report, consequences?

2. If the corrective work is carried out an paid for, does contractor reissue the same report after testing the corrected work, or if months have passed since the original EICR, is a re-inspection required?

So, what form is used for the inspection/test of the corrected work?

If the EICR is for insurance / mortgage reasons it would be in the interest of the person ordering the EICR to act on any codes that results in an unsatisfactory cert being issued. If not the insurance / mortgage companies involved would not proceed with business.
Any person who does not act on a unsatisfactory EICR leaves themselves open to a rather hefty claim if any person/property or damage by fire etc can be put down to the electrical installation.

2. Depends what the customer wants, it they want an EICR that is 'good' then reissue another - what you test/inspect will depend on who carried out the remedials and length of interval
