Eicr who wants them

Our Company’s raising the cost of an EICR, basically they don’t want them.
I can see their point too, its the remedial work, it’s such a pain & not that profitable.
How many times have you come away & wondered if you’ve missed something, should of been a complete rewire, & then the remedial work to correct it.
These jobs are so fiddly especially in a domestic rented properties, drives me mad.
Your not going to be 100% on the outcome anyway, I’ve done plenty & to be honest never enjoyed them.

Got spanked off by another electrician for EICR yesterday. Mine was £250 and £175 for two different properties owned by LL. They know an electrician that will do them £50 each. I am not and wont compete/ing with that!

Having like I guess many of us been quite busy with EICRs recently has drawn my attention to just how widespread really poor workmanship is in this country. I had my "remote assessment" from the niceic the other day and he mentioned the mandatory increase in indemnity cover, ironically I had 500k because I wasn't happy with the 100k standard (but lost it last time I renewed because it was too much effort for the agent (nics own cover)), purely because of the widespread terrible standard of installs I'm meddling with regularly

Looking into moving to oz now... Despite being in my 40s and quite experienced ill have to be an "improver" for a year... Annoying but at least they police the whole industry, not just the ones who choose to comply!

£250 bout the right price, also after all that & waiting for an acceptance of the cost of remedials...you then have 28 days to do the works,I do believe or get a right telling of by those in higher status than you.

Spot on there poor workmanship throughout our industry especially in the domestic areas.

The problem is more the bogit&leggit brigade.

If you know which end of a hammer to hold the majority of the middle classes will believe you're anything you say, most people really are that clueless and feckless today.

I've been doing loads and yes general workmanship standards found are not good ! Getting fed up with EICRs now and thankfully only 7 left for the time being. Does anyone else find some of the places totally cluttered and far from clean ? Even though they know you're coming a lot of the tenants make zero effort to help you access sockets etc ,and you can't even find a clear and clean spot to place anything down. But on the other hand some are good as gold.

Yes, it seems to vary from one extreme to another.

Last week, I had one where the tenants had kindly moved every bit of furniture in front of a socket, etc (without being asked).

Then another with nothing moved, no access to about half the sockets, piles and stashes of junk everywhere, meter cupboard and airing cupboard rammed to bursting, barely room to put down a test bag or tool bag. Often with a comment along the lines "If I'd realised you need access, I'd have moved stuff"!

Found myself working for someone with a few dozen housing association slum lets... Some of them I have to confess I don't even try - if I can get a passable insulation reading to earth its gets a pass with some grumbling in the limitations.

That is not good practice, but got to admit I agree. I hate doing them anyway. If it’s a mess I just do what I can and put FI if I don’t think I was able to get to enough of the property to do justice to the report.
I know some will disagree with this but I will not give a satisfactory to an installation I cant test thoroughly enough because the tenants are dirty messy b**tar*s.

I know but if I fail it he'll only ruddy ask me to go back and fix it!

I do try believe me but every now and then you get one that putting the extra effort in would be like trying to teach elocution to a plumber.
