Hi,

I've got a customer specifying... "All circuits to be supplied from a distribution board with MCB and ELB protection". I must be stupid as I don't know what he is on about and can't find anything on the web about ELB protection. Anyone got the answer? Perhaps its supposed to be RCD.

Out of interest what are you quoting for?

No one has come foward with a definitive answer, therefore asking the person who requested it directly the OP will be able to clarify exactly what they want. But still I suppose a game of "internet forum random guesses" will be far more suitable.

There's no harm in him asking a polite question on this forum to save going back to the customer. Posts #2 and #7 seem like nice sensible replies to me. Daz

If the customer is specifying MCB / ELB you can't assume they mean RCBO or MCB plus RCD(which is what they most likely do mean).

You'll have to go back to the customer and ask if RCBO or MCB / RCD is what they want and get them to change their spec.

If you don't ask them they could refuse to pay on the grounds you've deviated from spec.

You quite right, there is no harm in asking in here, neither has any reply on this tpoic been unhelpful, sometimes folk maybe just need to realise that the easiest answer isnt actually that difficult to find ( I am not having a dig at the OP there) but the person giving the spec will always be able to clarify exactly what they want or be educated for future reference.

Won't be the first time I've agreed with a customer off the cuff, then thinking what did they mean, so not to look like you don't know what you're talking about you ask elsewhere!
