Hi,

I've got a customer specifying... "All circuits to be supplied from a distribution board with MCB and ELB protection". I must be stupid as I don't know what he is on about and can't find anything on the web about ELB protection. Anyone got the answer? Perhaps its supposed to be RCD.

I'm with Dillb. Any queries about a specification should go straight to the person who produced the specification. In this instance it's pretty much clear that it's going to be RCD protection that is being asked for, but it still wouldn't hurt to give them a nudge and make sure you are both working to the same terminology and definition.

The specifier will probably say "Yes I mean RCD protection" or "Err I'm not sure, I just copied and pasted the generic spec"

If the customer is specifying MCB / ELB you can't assume they mean RCBO or MCB plus RCD(which is what they most likely do mean).

You'll have to go back to the customer and ask if RCBO or MCB / RCD is what they want and get them to change their spec.

If you don't ask them they could refuse to pay on the grounds you've deviated from spec.

Thats just garbage!

The OP's quote would confirm what he is planning to fit and on the quote he would state why he is fitting the RCD and not the ELB!

I am currently doing a load of work in a factory that is rammed with at least 500 of them all 3phase as well, it's a huge site at 23 acres.

it's got 2 1000kva transformers, the installation is a work of art, done by a proper firm many years ago, sadly though most of it will be getting stripped out as part of new works.

To give you an idea of the size of the site here is a picture of my van in one of the bays, my van is closer to me than the end of the bay and there's 7 bays just in this side of the site.

Cheers Nephew.

I think the OP, is trying to get the SP, on the ELB, for the CU. And MP`s are thinking the OP should send a RFI to the DIC concerning the said ELB for the CU, incase it`s an RCD as they don`t have ESP.

Nothing impressive about having a small van. Daz
