Hi,

I have been asked to look at some Fadini Elpro 7 electric gate openers, the gates have not worked for years apparently. There is power to the PCB.
I have no experience in electric gates at all, but it is something I would like to learn.

Where do you begin when trying to fault find and does anyone have any expereience with this make of gate opening system.

All help much appreciated.

Many Thanks

Craig

ring manufacture and ask for replacment control box and sensors and get the info with it would be the best place to start if you dont know much i would think.. ive seen inside one of these and didnt know where to start myself ..

but when i did wave arm over sensor you could hear a click, but nothing happened. anyhow id say you need to be working with these in regular basis to get to know them and how they work, so i think hard to learn off own back

To be honest mate, we spend years learning fault-finding techniques. When I was an electrical engineering apprentice, the guy who was training me would simulate faults on numerous pieces of equipment then get me to go through all the textbook procedures. He would then show me a few which weren't in the books... My point is, fault-finding is a skill and comes from experience. If you are not familiar with this equipment then I would suggest you tell the client to get a gate specialist in.

Thanks Guys.

I have been on the fadini website and downloaded some stuff.
Might have another quick look, but if it dosen't make sense I will tell him to get a gate specialist.

With the info in the Fadini link I think resolving the fault should be straight forward for any one who can read a drawing and has little understanding of fault finding

A few links where the peripheral devices are connected to prove the main unit / PCB is working properly and then take it from there

Be aware of the legislation with electric gates: if you do get it working again and recomission the system, it will fail mandatory safety tests because it is a 230v system and requires safety devices to comply with backing off and slow down requirements when it comes into contact with

Given the age of the thread Jase I think he'll have forgotten about this job by now :)

That sounds to be more of a control issue rather that a motor issue Are all the limit switches working properly and not sticking occassionally
