Hi guys Ive been asked to quote for fitting controls to 6x3Kw electric heaters. The client wants one roomstat and a timer to control all the heaters or possibly zone into 2? All the heaters are on there own supply 2.5mm 20amp rcbo. Is there a way of doing this all help really appreciated. Im not sure how the best way to go about this is. :uhoh2:

Get a room thermostat/timer - if you cant find one with high enough current then you may have to look at a relay as well.

Dont these radiators have thermostats on them?

of course you will need to think about a FCU.

Heaters will have to be on same supply or relays on each as switches

Use a CH timer, output of timer to the thermostat, the output of the thermostat to the coils of 2 x 3 pole 20A contactors, output from contactors to the FCU for each heater. Input for the contactors from CU.

So if i have this right i take a new feed (FCU) from the board for the heating controls ch timer and roomstat. I can then run 3 heaters from one contactor and then 3 heater from the other contactor? Will the roomstat and timer be ok running all 6 heaters? is that right???

Thanks!!

Feed for the contactor contacts comes from the CU. i.e. 3 x 20A CBs with 2.5mm to each of the contactor contacts. The other side of the contactor contacts feed the FCU's for each of the heaters. The contactor coils are fed from the timer/thermostat combination.

So the contactor is rated at 20A for each pole or 20A overal?
I have found a 63 Amp 4 Pole Contactor - 3 Module unit for a good price so is ok to use 3 poles on a 4 pole contactor?

And the feed to power the roomstat and timer is taken from a new fcu is that ok? on the coil of the contactor do i need to complete the circuit? i dont understand the terminals labled a1 and a2?

Yes to the first question.
You can take the power for the control circuit from a new breaker. feed a1 for the contactor coil with Live from the thermostat, and a2 with neutral.
