Browsing to buy a new electric oven. I came across a Hotpoint with a rating of 10.7 kWh. I calculated that would need a 16mm cable! Surely not? I multiplied by 1.25 as when it's on its a continuous draw. Thoughts?

Diversity is your friend here.

From memory as not got my regs book to hand…

The first 10 amps + 30% of remaining load + 5 amps if your cooker isolator switch has got an integrated socket on it.

If my maths is right, it should draw just shy of 26 amps with diversity applied.

So depending on the length of run and installation reference method, it should be good on a 6mm cable and a 32amp MCB/RCBO

what he said. ^^^^^^^^. rare to find that you need to go up to 10mm cable. the 6.0mm cable is protected against overload by the 32A MCB. both cable and MCB will withstand 40% overrrating for up to 1 hour when the load exceeds 32Aif all elements are warming simultaneously ( woow, spelloing at 5.00a.m.after beer. I must getoutmore).

Just an oven, not a complete cooker, correct?
kWh (kilowatt hours) is a measure of energy usage. The electrical load rating (from which the current is calculated) is measured in kW (kilowatts). I don't think the oven uses 10.7kW unless it is a huge commercial thing, domestic ovens are typically no more than 4kW and many are less.

What is the actual rating in kW?
