I would imagine you would need the patience of a saint, 10mm is a nightmare even getting the conductors perfectly alighned

Why anyone would need a super mega watt electric shower, i still can't understand!! lol!! The 4.2 KW shower i'm using over here, delivers more than enough hot water for a good shower!!

Exactly, I don't have an electric shower at home but the flat I stay in for work has a 6.5 KW which is fine TBH.

These 9.5/10.5KW showers are a real pain, especially when there is already a lower KW one in place and the customer can't see why you can't just swap it using the existing cable. I was at a job last year where a DIYer had changed an old 4KW unit for a 9.5 using the existing 4mm cable! Very safe.

16mm blimey. Even the big all electric range cookers that can pull upwards of 60 amps have manufacturers instructions stating 40 Amp/10mm supply.

If I was putting 16mm in I`d be more worried about the 1361 and tails.

It was a big cooker and the calcs came to 16mm however i will admit that i forgot to apply diversity but the cable was buried in the wall then ran through 300mm of insulation in the loft then back down the wall

i have done three in five years all 16mm T/E you should see the meter go thay gained a small electric heater under the stairs ha ha.

no brainer on the shower 10mm all day long forget caculations unless your working at the queens house and the dis board is fifthy miles away

Forgetting to apply diversity to a cooker will always dictate a monster cable

A lesson very well learned when it came to 2nd fix i assure you. Still at least the circuit is capable of supplying any cooker she will buy again, serious future proofing!

Regulation 510.3 is quite clear, even if you can prove via calculations that you can use a smaller cable, you must use the cable as given by the manufacturer!

'Every item of equipment shall be selected and erected as to allow compliance with the regulations in this chapter and relevant regulations in other parts of BS7671 AND SHALL TAKE ACCOUNT OF MANUFACTURES INSTRUCTIONS'.

If the manufacturer states you need a 10mm cable or whatever cable, then that's what needs to be installed!

You are absolutely correct. However, I have never seen a standard cooker ask for 10mm cable.
