Looks like any standard din rail mounted timer to me.

Obviously used to keep something off or on for a set period of time after a switch has changed state.

Maybe to keep the lights on for a while or even to delay a specific bank of lights being turned on.

OK, if it's a timer, and if the control circuit is only within the box, and the thing next to it is a phase failure relay, then perhaps its function is to prevent immediate restart of the compressor against head pressure in the event of a supply glitch. Compressors are normally thermally protected against stalling but if the power supply is unreliable then this would make sense.

Thanks for the link, sorry I'm viewing this site on a dim 4" screen on an embedded computer in a rack and can't see much detail in anything.

No problem with the english. Superior to many posts read.

Good luck, if required, with the installation.

Right, I've got the picture up on a proper screen now. It does look like a timer, but as it has no function symbol it isn't clear whether it is a simple on-delay or whatever. There is a reset or override input that isn't used. The output is an N/C contact, with an LED to indicate its state. The device to the left is definitely a phase failure relay as I can now read the text: 'DĂ©tecteur Ă©lectronique de fusion'.

I tried to follow the control wiring without success. To confirm the purpose of the timer, I think it would be necessary to trace it out. Possibilities include delaying startup until the power has been good for a minimum time, i.e. to prevent it re-starting immediately after a brief power loss, or to disable the phase failure detection for a during starting, as the phase failure relay does not include a timer and might drop out due to inrush.
