AM2 is not a City & Guilds test. It is NET (National Electrotechnical Training). The last time I checked AM1 no longer existed.

I have finished my 2330 and just complete the 2382 so I've been looking for the same answers as yourself.

Assuming your just after being a domestic and light industry spark and employed by someone else it looks like you need 2330, 2382 (17th edition regs) and 2391 (insp & test)

Pretty much every job I've looked at lately is asking for 2382 & 2391 as there fairly hard courses to get through so you need to know your stuff.

2391 is next up for me although I'm waiting on my 2382 results as I only took it yesterday.

Good luck!

Forgot to say also that although the AM2 looks to be a fairly good course it's not well known by employers who tend to steer towards the main stream C&G courses so I think there our best route in.

Like I said I'm basing this purely on what I've seen from job adverts so it's wise to print off a load of adverts from your local job centre and just see what people are asking for in your area.

I check on able skills web today. To get your jib card you need to have the 2330, 2382, 2391 & 2356. Then you can call yourself a fully qualified electrician and get the rate of pay you deserve.;)

And AM2 if you are a JIB-Registered Apprentice. If not, the AM2 still forms part of the evidence to cover the NVQ Level 3.

And you do NOT require 2391 for JIB Grading.

seriously this is common problem in the DOMESTIC industry..!! to be part P be you need no formal qualifications at all...!!

ITS A JOKE!!!!

when i spoke to elecsa they dont care if you dont have 2391, NVQ 3, AM2, 17th etc etc,..
they put them as desirables!!!

you get assessed on site to how much you do or dont know!!

personally i have

2382 17th edition
2391 inspect and test
2356 NVQ 3
2377 Pat testing
Btec Level 3 advanced diploma electrical installation

i dont have any part P vrq crap as its a con..!! i am looking at getting 2372 soon (solar Photovoltaics) as i thin it will be big business soon!!

AM2 is very well known in the industry. All Apprentices are required to complete it.

I wasn't disputing that the AM2 is an industry qualification, what I was saying is that many employers Don't know what it is so therefore they just look for the most common C&G qualifications when hiring.

Like I said, print off a load of job adverts and see for yourself, I got my wife to print me off all the adverts for electricians in the area (she runs a local job centre) and every one asked for 2391 and some 2382 and 2330, not a single mention of AM2, or an NVQ.

I think their getting it wrong personally but thats the way it is, I'm told that most employers that advertise through the job centre want 2382 17th edition regs and 2391 Insp & test, thats it.

as someone said above though if your looking to go self employed and register with a body like the JIB etc. then from what I remember they will want to see an NVQ2 or an AM2 but not both.

Indeed that's true and it's unacceptable in my view. I did once see a job asking for an AM2 but that was for security alarms or something! Wasn't quite sure what they wanted someone to have an AM2 for.

NVQ3. I think it's only in England that they do NVQ2 (it certainly isn't done here). They require AM2 as well though - in fact it is required to complete the NVQ3 (and JIB also need the AM2 certificate sent to them).

There is, I think (don't quote me on it), an exemption from AM2 for older applicants with considerable industry experience but generally it is required.

I was just going to ask if you needed the 2356, as mentioned in previous posts.

I've done a search for this on the C&G site, this is a Food Manufacture course, so someone must have their wires crossed somewhere...
