I was told that a multifunction tester for domestic installation, was not needed. if not what would be required for a full scope electrician. I am a studding electrics at the moment.

It makes no difference whether you buy a multi function tester or single units they all do the same job, not sure why they are telling you don't need a multi for domestic?

You will need an MFT or separate testers that do all the required tests and they must be calibrated. You must test electrical installations to ensure they are safe.

get an all in one... you dont want to be carrying around 4 different testers when you start work.

I have the fluke 1653b and would highly recommend it

They may be refering to the little hand held multi meter that you can buy from Aldi for a few quid. There ok for working on cars but not really good for the working sparky.
