Electricial grid info

Hi Guys,

I would like to know that, if I have a generating facility, at how many kwh output would it changes from requiring a normal Low voltage system to requiring a High voltage system.

I am initially trying to avoid the High mega buck cost of upgrading the electricity network to a HV system.

Thank you

Hi,

My original plan was to install a 1Mwh generator, but after speaking with the DNO and getting a quote to upgrade the network of £82,000 kind of put me down abit. So I thought about starting with a smaller generator on a LV system which will not require upgrading to the same level, make money from it and then go for the bigger generator.

You will need to talk to the DNO, it also depends on where you want to connect into their grid, something that size would need to go back to primary.

Ask what they will yet you connect without any upgrades.

Prime power generation can end up being far more costlier than buying power from the electricity companies. Most prime power generator installations will require at least two equal sized units, if your business operation isn't going to be affected by the loss the generator supply, say due to a shut down fault occurring, and for the regular maintenance needed by such units.... I would say it's very rare to see prime generator power in the UK, it's normally ''stand-by'' (back-up) that you will most often see in the UK!!

Just re-read your post, seems i misread what you are planning. ..lol!!

To be honest with you, if your thinking about this generator purely as a feedback system, then forget it. By the time you have figured in all the running costs and maintenance costs to run a generator 24/7, you may not even get close to breaking even, let alone be able to put a payback period on the installation. Especially as fuel prices and maintenance costs can and will only increase over time!!

Other than that, you haven't given anywhere near enough information to base real assessments and/or any meaningful advice to give you...
