Arsenal

hello lads just wanted to get some advice on becoming an electrician .

i have no experience/qualifications to do with electrics apart from helping my father out when i was younger who has been an electrician for over 30 years.

im 28 years old this year and ive putting off training in this trade for so many years due to no self belief getting my self on the wrong road with the wrong people.

ive got a good start by being able to work with my father when i near the end of the course to get some experience aswell.

im now chomping at the bit to go for it but ive hit a few walls while researching like these crazy courses for thousands which i will not be going on & colledges that now dont do the 2330 anymore for adult learners !

also am i right in thinking that this course has to be done inbetween sept-may ?

Any information on what i should do or if i cant get a colledge course is there a reliable skills course ÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁ what has good feedback ?

Thanks for reading any info would be great.

It is now really hard for a adult learner to gain the qualifications and learn the principles and theory now as they have removed the 2330 altogether and the new qualification is only achievable
by 5 week course
be employed in the electrical industry and available for day release.

If it will be beneficial for your father's work work towards the 2382 17th edition and might get the foot in the door with your father company to enable you to gain employment and attend college

You can obtain the 2330 through a Electrical Trainee course erm what? :s

The reason i've not answered this thread is because im not really sure what the current procedure's are towards adult learners theses days, but surely that can't be correct - i mean i knew it was bad, but i never new the Electrical Trainee were coming away with 2330 qualifications, i thought it was just 17th and part-pee!

Cant be right can it ?

Hallelujah!

No its literally impossible arsenal, i know that when i was at college and everything i was taught and the amount of paperwork i was given - it is impossible to teach all that in 5weeks. 2330 level 2 and level 3, nvq level 3, 17th (or whatever it is now - because i think they're merging the 2330 and nvql3?) - thats the route you want to be going down though.

well i for one wouldn`t be irresponsible enough to ever point anyone down the Electrical Trainee route.....
they are not real courses
they do not offer any real training
they do not offer any real prospects
they only offer to help themselves to your hard earned....with very little return

we have this on an almost daily basis in here...

if you want to get into this game...then please, please go and get someone who will be able to give you enough work for you to be able to fill the requirements for the new C&G 2357....

Arsenal....glenn said do the City and Guilds 2357...

...i think this is what i meant when i said the 2330 and nvql3(2356) were merging! This is the correct way to do it, if you've got the 2357qualification you're in a hell of a better place than any Electrical Trainee.

Yeah there no chance im doing a 5 week course its obviously not legit .

I just cant find anywhere what does these courses my local colledge doesnt do them & the sunderland one took the 2330 off there list last year

cant seem to find a course on the durham website either :sad3:

Checking websites isn't probably the best idea anyway arsenal...as for all you know they might not of updated in years.

Ring around the colleges and enquire about the C&G2357, and if that said college doesn't do it - ask if they know anywhere that does.

I`v sent him a PM mark explaining the best way to go about getting at least some employment in the electrical installation sector....
this is what he will need if he`s going to be accepted for enrollment on the new course (C&G2357)..

as it seems your in gods country try gateshead college. ring them, ignore the website as at times its not up to date. they have a construcion skills academy on team valley ind est, you can do the 2357 there 2 nights a week its a 3 or 4 year course mind, but as said, the route into the trade.

for the love of god dont go to some back street training provider as they will just rob you and give you false hope. try and get work in the trade, with your dad or whoever, as the course is useless without experiance.
