Hi guys, I am coming to the end of my level 3 city and guilds 2330 having previously passed my level 2 certificate. I am hoping to get a job in the industry with a smallish firm doing domestic wiring in households or possibly a bigger company doing domestic work also.
to be considered an electrician for this purpose do I need to be assesed on site (NVQ)?
Do i need 17th edi and part p? Any info would be grateful as I don't want to spend any more money doing courses I don't need, as I have already forked out around ÂŁ2000 for the c&g 2330.
Thanks Sparko

Defiantly need your 17th. Don't bother with any part p courses just get to know the building regs of part p. Next stage is the 2391 and/or NVQ.

As for your or anybody's electrical status that's comes down to your own competence in the area that your working in, but with level 3 and the 17th I would class you as an electrician.

you will need NVQ level 3 to become graded as electrician. This is not against the OP but the route he has taken is better than the 4 week courses there is but an NVQ takes between 6-9 months to complete. Even having 2 years part time study on 2330 and if not working in the trade then being able to complete an NVQ within 6-9 months still doesn't really give new starters a lot of experience or unless you were to get a job then wait a few years before completing your portfolio.

My point being that you only need 6-9 months practical experience before becoming qualified alongside the technical certs and 17th. It still quite isn't 4 years practical experience is it?
