electricians required for dissertation survey

Mornin all,

i don't know if this is the correct place to be asking but here goes,

As apart of my uni project i am sending out a survey. If you work in the construction industry and have a few spare minutes could you complete it please. I have contacted all the lads i used to work with but i've been told i need more so i have popped it online.

Hi, that's an interesting subject.

On the face of it, you would think that the younger generation were more H&S conscious, because it's always been there, than the "old uns" who stick to their old ways. I know from personal experience as a lecturer on the subject in the 80s that that's not the case. Since the H&SAW Act in 1974 there had been a 80% reduction in fatalities. So the legislation has undoubtedly been a success. I don't have the stats but would hazard a guess that the proportion of accident to young and old hadn't changed during that time. And that you will find that generational attitudes are the same. I would also hazard a guess that the younger generation suffer the most accidents. But that's due to taking more risks just for the thrill of it. Its only when you get older that you realise your not indestructible.

The question about attending training is pointless for me.
As self employed, I arrange my own training (IPAF, PASMA, Asbestos Awareness, Sentinel, PTS, QAFF 54, etc).
Obviously, if I arrange and pay for it, I will attend.
It is very, very, very rare that the companies or the Agencies I work for will provide training, if any do, I will always (if possible) attend.
