Hold up Shakey - did I say that?

Sorry Cirrus, it was Easyfox

apologies:eek:

Let us face it;

Parliament Makes the Laws
C&G Provide the Courses
IEE Provide the Study Materials and Regulations
JIB Provide the Ratings
NICEIC Provide the Approvals

And I am sure there are many others. No wounder why every body is so bloody confused.

well put
shakey ,look at the jib grading definitions ,you/me /we might not like them but the definitions are a starting point

sorry Wayne but i dont think they are

they are arbitory hurdles to jump, and there is no leeway for experience or APL

its the 'one size fits all' thing again

the JIB just tries to fit everyone into little boxes

shakey,
whats APL and how do you quantify experience?
if it says oxo on the side i know i,m getting a little brown cube ,if the box says electrician i should be getting somebody with a measured level of experience and enough qualification to be competent and able...... perfect world stuff again:p

Hi Wayne

sorry, APL is Accreditation for Prior Learning, and is very apt in this case

hard to quantify experience i agree

what i dont agree with is the way that installation (specific) electricians have tried to hi-jack the term 'electrician' for their sole use, and then define a tight qualifiaction criteria which half of them havent achieved

if we are talking boxes, in my time my box would have said any of these following terms:

Auto-electrician
Maintenance electrician
maintenenace engineer
mobile electrical technician
industrial electrician
installation electrician
electronics engineer
plant engineer

i could go on and on

and with respect to guys who can only install commercial, industrial or domestic circuits - i can do that, but i can also install, program and repair PLC's, industrial robotics, complex motor control systems etc etc etc

my high level quals and experience would stomp all over them

but theres guys on here (and out there) who think because they have a poxy 2330 and AM2 they are the cats whiskers, yet dont even know how use a test meter (a standard tool of their trade)

what other trades do you know where supposedly 'qualified' tradesman can only do half a job:confused:

make me laugh they do

'proper sparks'? - i 'ave em for fu&*ing breakfast:p

and hey, its good to talk;)

Come on Darius

why does everyone do this?

a number of times recently we have the 'fully qualified' crowd claiming that people who are not fully qualified should not be allow to buy electrical kit (Easyfox), or she not be allowed to work at all

and each and every time I challenge them to state what they mean by 'fully qualified'

and each and everytime they back off and shy away

so lets here it my friend, lets see what you have to say..........

I am sorry me old mate. I didn't back off and I didn't shy away. That is exactly my point.

Who is a Qualified Electrician?
What do you need in terms of academical qualifications and work experience to be that Qualified Electrician?
Who decides who is qualified or not?

Those are very simple questions and they should have very simple plain English answers.

Now I am not "Qualified Electrician". Why? I don't know. Some people use to tell me I needed 2360. Some told said no I need 2350. Some said a combination of 2391 and 2381 makes me qualified. And now they say I need 2330 all levels. But I got to finish my NVQ work base as well................................

In the mean time during last year at my work and in my private works I have done every job that other so called "Qualified Electricians" have been doing the only different is I am not regarded as fully qualified electrician.

I rest my f%^&)£$g case.

I rest

Hold up Shakey - did I say that?
Sorry Cirrus. I think Shakey's radiator boild up and got a bit confused between Darius and Cirrus.
