hi, my mates truck depot/yard has had fuel stolen from the trucks 3 times in the last 2 weeks + countless other times. short of wiring a truck to the mains, anyone got any ideas on how to help prevent this? previous cctv footage was no good as you couldn't see their faces. i believe the company would be liable if a guard dog bit an intruder. the whole place is well fenced with barbed wire and has some security lighting which will be upgraded, any recommendations?

thank you

Can you see a thief reporting to the police a gaurd dog bit him whilst he was nicking fuel.....lol....

I think in those circumstances he would be retrieving a football accidently kicked over the fence.;)

People take no notice of PIR lamps any more.:(

Best solution is an audio one. Heavy duty PA fitted in the cab linked to the fuel cap. When the cap is interfered with the PA kicks in with a pre recorded tape of , You are being watched and your activities recorded. Or a suitable metal track by Kiss or similar or if you're a classics freak then what about The ride of the Valkyre. Really must be at a volume to awaken the neighbours, They'll call the cops quicker about noise than flashing lights.
All this assumes that the compound is near civilisation and not out in the boondocks.

Cheaper than a tank full of fuel.... But then they might pinch the PA too.:)

Now that the likely route of entry is known, install extra wireless (discrete) cameras at chest level looking up, (after normal hours to make sure word does'nt get out), with any luck you'll have pictures of faces the police can put a name to.

Consider that in a large number of such cases the drivers or their associates turn out to be the culprits either emptying the tanks before the lorries are returned to their compound to be locked up for the night or by knowing the security involved. It was common practice years ago for drivers to sell their spare wheels and say that they had been stolen at a service area or similar. Would it be feasable to fuel the lorries only with enough fuel for the days work to ensure that the tanks are very low on fuel at night. If the policy is to have full fuel tanks for the morning start then a revision of policy would be in order and the people involved will soon get fed up finding empty tanks and stop coming back. Every haulier knows how much fuel is needed for a planned journey.

awesome, the flamethrower alarm would soon stop the thieving *****, but we have a duty to protect those who wish to steal from us! the trucks have to be filled each evening ready for the early starts as the local fuel depot cannot open before 8 due to noise complaints from nearby neighbours.
the plan is now to add more security lights and multiple pir's. the pa alarm is also a good idea, can you recommend any and possiby a system that would ring a mobile.

cheers for the replies
