Electrtic shocks from water taps

Could be that there is no main bond onto water service pipe bringing different potential into premises.
Check for main and supplementary bonding.

Checked it mate and its there alright. Found a few low n-e insulation res readings, could this be the cause? Of course no matter how hard i tried today i just couldnt feel any tingles from the water which the whole family were getting last night. Found a dist bd supplying outside sheds and barns which wasn't covered by a rcd. Fitted one and of course it tripped straight away. traced the fault to some diy lights they had wired in a barn. I had no ladders for access so the best i could do was give all the wiring a shake and it cleared from a dead short to a low reading. Im sure i'll have revisit.

Stupid question, and this isn't sexist what sex is the person getting the tingles ? When i used to do house bashing, we a few times got reports of 'tingles' from sinks. neither me or my boss, or male members of the household were receiving these shocks but only females ! We put it down to static more than anything else !

Am i right in understanding that you shook the cable which cleared a short circuit and left it as a low reading still connected, you should have disconnected it fully until you had access to confirm and rectify any issues, if the fault re-occurs and some-one is injured or killed you need a good legal team to dig you out of the quagmire.
If you suspect or find a fault its you duty to leave it safe!

I once found this exact issue and they only got shocks off the sink if their feet were damp after a shower etc but the problem was a bitch to find and after hours of knocking power on/off etc etc.... but eventually trace it to a faulty t.v. shorting live to the aeriel cable which was pierced by the carpet gripper and guess what a foiled backed carpet hence the whole carpet was live with only the carpet thread insulating everyone, thus wet feet soaked to the foil backing :O

Thought about static myself but no dont think this is the cause and yes other males were also getting shocked.

No mate they had run the diy lights of a 13a socket. I unplugged and told them of the problem.

Remove the main earth and check the L-N loop impedence, you could have a neutral problem on the supply and the bonded metalwork is carrying neutral current. Otherwise as above check bonding etc.

Can you clarify what you mean mate. What sort of readings would i get between n-l if there was a fault on the incomer?

i think he mean that if you have lost a neutral you earth will be up in potential as return path will be via high resistance rod

If the neutral has a high resistance fault then you would expect over 1 ohm L-N loop test reading, but if there is a neutral fault then it could be anything up to infinity. I have been to a property once that had all the bonded metalwork at 240V and gave the owner a good belt, the neutral had burnt off the overhead line feeding them.

So your saying there was no neutral and the return path was via the earthing? That test your talking about is between l-n impeadence test and the higher reading i get, the the worse the supply n is?

yes that is correct. Of course on a pme the L-N loop should be the same as Ze. On a TT I would be concerned if there was anything over 1 ohm and get the local DNO to investigate

The reason behind this could be that the female had a lower resistance than you guys. she might have been sweatier than the guys giving better conductivity, this is how some people survive lightning strikes because some conduct better or worse than others.

Women tend to use moistiorizers more where as guys tend to have dry warn hands (less conductivity).

I see you argument in the domestic scene works but body resistance isnt an issue when dealing with the high voltages and current associated with lightning strikes as the few thousand ohms difference wouldnt change your survival chance with respect to the vast amount of energy hitting you.
Contadictory to common sense someone drenched to the skin has a higher chance of survival than someone hit while been dry, this is simply because the energy flows over the body on the wet layer rather than through it but if you were dry then the path would more likely be through your body where massive damage is thus caused.
Although this wasn't crucial point to your post i just couldn't bare your misguided thought on this
