External light on remote steel barn, cabled in Swa,supplied from main barn area & switched from there.Does steel barn require Main bonding.

You would have thought that whoever wired up the main barn would have tested if it needed bonding. Yes, maybe a bit optimistic.
You will have to test and see mate.

But how will he know?

Silly boy.. He attaches a mercury switch to his body, that will activate when he's horizontal, that then plays Wannabe by the Spice Girls... Keeping everyone else away from the danger..

practically speaking, is the external light Class I or any other exposed conductive parts? If there are no exposed imported earths close to the subject barn, I would say no need.
according to the letter of the law (BS7671) this barn may well supposed to be part of the equipotential zone of the first barn's installation, but based on the above you could consider a deviation if it's equally safe that way.

With the risk of being ridiculed, is it main bonding or supplementary bonding?
Main if it's likely to introduce local earth into an equipotential zone.

If the op is not relying on ADS for fault protection he could get away with it, but with a class I light it would need testing against the installation earth

You would treat it as a TT installation.
