Hi,
When testing emergency lights using a test key, is there a minimum time that the switch must be off for?

In other words are you just testing operation, or do you test battery capacity as well?

Thanks in advance.

It's both on the site I work we do a monthly test to make sure the are switching on if the is a mains failure and once every 12 months we do a 3 hour test to see if any off the batteries fail during this 3 hour test.

I advice clients or responsible person to perform a monthly 1 hour test (to check that emergency working and will allow emergency service to safely inspect building) and yearly a full 3 hour test to discharge the batteries completely.

I recently visited site were they do a full 3 hour test every 3 months.

Since found my copy of electrical maintenace info you want is in section 5.6 on page 47 to 49, there daily checks, there are 1 month, 3 monthly and 6 monthly tests that must be performed and requirement for result to be logged etc.

It’s getting to the point where full LED replacement is cheaper than spending time on testing and possibly replacing parts.
