Emergency lighting

O

One_of_them

Hey, hopefully I've got this right but just want clarification.

Small office needs to have an emergency light installed. Am I correct in thinking I could buy

Emergency Light 8 Watt Non-Maintained Weatherproof - IP56IP56

Run feed from a current light fitting perm feed down to a key switch, out of switch up to fitting?? Block neutrals + cpc's??

As its non maintained I'm thinking this is easiest solution (unless i've got it all wrong). Testing would only implie this emergency fitting and would not change/alter/interfere with exisiting fittings. Is this right?
If it was maintained with rest of lights it would involve changing current switching config to get the switch live? is that right?

am i right??

thanks guys

I would go from the D.B OCPD to the key switch , you havent mention the area of the space concerned or how many exits ( each exit requires final exit sign )

Thanks. It's a very small space, only has one entrance/exit. Seems like it was an extension for storage that is now been used as office. It's quite a long run form the DB to the office so was hoping going from the a local fitting would be OK?

On what grounds does it need an emergency light fitting - is it part of an exit route? Or is it simply that the door from the office leads out onto an exit route?

BS5266 part one is the reference.

If it turns out it isn't on an exit route, it doesn't need a fitting. If it leads onto one, then you're only obligated to sign the exit with an illuminated exit sign.

Either way, fittings should be wired from the local lighting circuit - if you're fitting a test switch, use a double pole one, rather than block the neutrals - or make the connection in the fitting.
