Discuss Emergency lighting in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

I think you have missed my point, i was trying to say although it may be possible to siwtch a EM doesnt mean you should. I was thinking along the lines of Exit signs, you could switch them doesnt mean you should.
As you said earlier it depends what they're being used for - in this case in a hallway, which IMO is fine.
In the case of an exit light it probably depends on the likelihood of the light getting switched on when it's needed; in most cases I'd say it's fine to have them switched.

As BS5266..Why would you want to switch a maintained exit sign..???
Back to original post "is it possible to switch a maintained emergency light, eg a hallway..?..Well I think we have answer this question.

sorry i raised the point that just because there maybe a switched terminal doesnt mean you should use it.
Why ever not, that whats it was designed to do, as stated previously, if not switching, link out for maintained, leave unlinked for non maintained....most manufactures make this dual mode, to suit all installation requirements.

I give up with this one.

I was simply saying just becuase a fitting may have a switched terminal doesnt mean to say switching the fitting will be ok as it may not have been in the design to have it switched.

NOT ignore the terminal or whatever you are getting at.

THe OP doesnt seem to be very experienced with the wording of the question, I was making a simple point which has been jumped all over.

That does help, it shows that the problem is almost certainly in the way it is connected and not a problem with the fittings.
