Emergency spots, connection advice

Hi all,

A client has kindly changed their mind on the emergency light they are using. They want to me to install these

I’ve used these quite a lot and I’m most casss they are a good job, I would usually install beside a spot light or similar so I can access/install a connection box. In this case I cannot do that as cables already installed. The cut out for these is 38mm, does anyone know or have any advice on a small junction box or connector that would be compliant to allow me to connect these?

Thought they only took T&E.

Must have put fifty of those or similar in, we used four way click flow connectors, but that assumes you have a three core with PL at every position.

If you have then it is just a case of piggybacking off of the nearest point.

If not then best of luck.

Does the click flow connector work ok with them, they are 40mm wide, tight enough for the cut out size we would be using

Ah, mine were all fitted in suspended ceilings. They work a trea but may be tight in your cut outs.

Yeah I’m going into MF ceilings, disaster. I’ll try one to see how it looks.

Do you know a supplier who stocks the quick wire?

You can’t connect flex, or 3 core into those so probably not much use for this.

What cables/flex are supplying this fitting eg 2 x 3 core & e etc. also is the fitting pre-wired. Saying that a lot of fittings seem to be designed to take one cable. We use a lot of CP Electronics plug-in boxes which is fine above a suspended ceiling but you with an MF ceiling you have to plan a bit ahead. I take it that the ceiling is now plasterboarded and the original fitting was either surface or had a larger cut-out.

The way I did it was to cut a short piece of plastic conduit with male adapters on each end and stuffing glands in the adapters.Make the joint with crimps or wagos,feed inside conduit and tighten the stuffing glands.Push the short conduit thro the hole,followed by the em light.
