Going to soon be applying for my engtech, are their any users on here that have it?. I am currently registered as TMIET so will be applying using the IET. Basically would like some information on the documentation that you need to submit or some examples of them. these are the accountability diagram, and the development action plan.

Thanks

Hi mate,

I am mid way through the waiting period for hearing back on my EngTech application and my employer was good enough to help my through the process. So things like accountability diagrams and development plans were tied in with a simple a organisational structure and end of year reviews.

Are you currently employed at the moment? How supportive is your employer?

I'm sorry to hear you weren't successful this time around mate. I received mine back a little while ago and managed to get it this time yeah. The advice you received to contact a PRA is a very good one, they are volunteers to the IET to help people maximise their chances of professional registration.

Your application will be completely individual to you and your experiences, the PRA will help to make sure you're ticking all the boxes. I had to work quite a lot with a colleague to make sure I included not only the technical work that I have done, but the soft skills also (using documentation, quality testing, adhering to process and procedure and health and safety).

Don't get disheartened, once you are registered no-one can take that away - unless you stop paying your registration fee! Good luck!

Thanks for the Reply JD, I think for me im finding it hard actually explaining on paper what i want say. i find some of it is not really that clear. Are some of the PRA's actually electricians? So they would know what i am talking about, and how to explain things?

To my knowledge the IET has engineers from many disciplines, from mechanical, electrical, systems to IT even.

There will be someone with knowledge of electrical engineering who will be able to help you get all the technical stuff across and will understand what you're trying to say.

Just remember to match your evidence against the A, B, C, D and E competences available on the website. Explaining how you adhere to wiring regulation, safety requirements, if you've even taught someone else how to do something, if you have completed and managed a task solo, who you reported to and how you communicated with your boss/mentor. Having all that stuff in is all plus points that tick off those competencies.

It may be that your application is good, but you might not have fulfilled 'competency C' for example, a PRA will be able to identify this and offer advice as to how you can fortify that
