I know this is something we all come across and in the past when I have needed to enlarge downlight holes, I've used a small plasterboard cutter and even a file. I have about 10 downlight holes to enlarge on an upcoming job so wondered if there is an easier way?

Speak to your Electrician he should be able to help.

What would be really handy would be a range of some sort or sleeve that can protect the edge of the plasterboard from those pain in the ..se downlight springs.

With a little bit of patience and fine tuning, one can offer up the new sized hole saw into the existing smaller hole, at a jaunty angle with driver drive initially at slow speed, and cut to the new required size. Moves the centre of the hole a few mm, but easily accomplished.
