Envirovent Eco dmev problem

I have just fitted one of these fans, simple swap out of traditional Manrose Axial extractor fan. But this fan is loud! Also when the shower is turned on the room fills with steam to the point of water running down the walls....I thought this fan was supposed to be really good i.e no steam and almost silent running?

I have 2 of them on the van so have swapped it out with the other to make sure it wasn't faulty but the same problems are with both.

Set up is switched live operating off the light pull cord.

Any ideas?

Fans need a supply fresh air to help with negative pressure. Make sure they shower with the bathroom window still open, or make sure there is a 5mm gap under door.

What's the duct run like?

Are they centrifugal?

Yes they are centrifugal. Duct is straight through the wall cored out, old house so solid wall. I thought is should be ok without the window open as again as its an old house that has had various different floorings there is more than a 1cm gap under the door. The chap down at the merchants said you struggle to hear these fans but it is louder than the old one. A few reviews I have just looked at online (on amazon) say it is almost silent. I am wondering if it runs on a boost setting all the time if it is switched rather than on permanently.

I'd suggest you refer to the manual to see whether it has a boost function. It would then require and perm and a sw live.

If it's noisey is the core sleeve too tight around the fan causing the propellers to catch and wuur?

You still need a supply of fresh air to replace the air that the fan is extracting. It causes negative a pressure are reduces the air flow rate. Is the fan suitable for the bathroom size? Get them to shower with the window open and I guarantee it's will be significantly better.

Pretty straight forward I thought, unless I am missing something. I have it connected up as in Fig.4 top image as its the timer model.

You could wire it up on a test bed to see if it's noisy when it's not stuffed in the wall ducting.

I hate those fans, they do make an awful noise, the speed can be adjusted but all the speeds seem to make a really distracting speed controlled motor sort of noise.

most fans will make more noise when they are labouring !
sounds like there is not enough air coming in to balance the air
that the fan wants to put out
hense the labouring and the extra noise.
try opening your window and see what happens to the noise level ?

Sounds like a faulty fan to me - maybe a bad batch if you have had 2. As said above, get it powered up on its own without any ducting connected. Try both. Then try one from another batch at the wholesalers.

If all are the same then time to contact the manf.

Think I will make up a test bed this week and see if it makes as much noise on its own. Ill let you know

I am using a lot of Envirovent Kit at the moment and they have been very good - although not exactly cheap!

Ring Envirovent themselves and get them to put you in touch with the person covering your area, the support I have had from the Wales and West country guy has been excellent thus far both in demoing kit and helping with design on large install I am about to do.
