Excel CU

Hi guys,

I can get a good deal on an Ecel consumer unit. The trouble is that I need to use one 20A Type C MCB as well for a motor circuit. Excel does not seem to do Type C breakers. Will the board be compatible with the other brands like Eaton or some other?

Somebody with the access to a wide range if MCBs shoul make a table for the types of fittings for the breakers. You know which brand can be replaced with which ones.

Would be very helpful info for all of us.

I hate to mention it but did come across one on the net the other day, not sure how accurate/complete it was. I'll see if I can find it.

BS 7671 puts specific responsibility on the installer; regulation 510.33 requires that the installer takes into account the
manufacturer's instructions.
It is, therefore, the responsibility of the installer who intends to mix different manufacturers' devices/ components in an
assembly, to undertake appropriate testing and ensure conformity with BS EN 60439. If this is not done then there is a
probability that, in the event of death, injury, fire or other damage, the installer would be accountable under Health and
Safety legislation.
Although devices may appear similar; the dimensions, technical performance and terminations are not necessarily
compatible.

In other words - every manufacturer would like to bully you in to buying only ther products.
