Visited the parents over Christmas. I noticed they had some under-cupboard lights fitted in the kitchen and then saw the quality of the work. All this from an electrician advertising in Yellow pages apparently. I made safe by clamping the join inside a box. So annoyed this can happen to the unsuspecting.

The only thing about a rogue trader's section where we can name and shame people is that they can sue and unlike the TV companies I don't think Dan will have an army of lawyers on standby to advise before things are out there in public and to repel actions when they are. That said, I do think that if it could work it would be a good thing.

Didn't realise that...i better 'disclaimer' my advise then. DAN, if ure reading - don't listen to me mate on this one :laugh3:

Stupid they can sue - they shouldn't bodge the job in the first place. Dunno what it is these days, people don't seem to take pride in their work anymore.

they can't sue if what you say is true. libel law is only for if you say something that is untrue, defaming a person's character or professional reputation.

That's not been done by an Electrician, that's been done by someone advertising electrical work carried out.
You never have needed any qualifications to advertise in yellow pages or anywhere else.

well i dont care what anyone says...
it aint an electrician aint that....
he may think he is...but he isn`t....
because no self respecting soul would pass that of as `normal`....

You are right, but in this country libel law is biased in favour of the acuser, you are guilty untill proven innocent, and proving innocences is very expensive. Look up simon sings case against the british chiropractic society.

If people are worried about law suits then post the images and then just post a location. E.g. photo of botched job and then 'work done by an 'electrican' in Cleethorpes, for example. BTW I have no axe to grind with Cleethorpes. The town name was just picked for comic emphasis :)

Surely, given the quality of this particular work, S****horpe would have been a better choice :smartass2:

Well you raise a good point. How does a member of the public recognise a qualified electrician? There seem to be so many schemes available as training options it's almost impossible to know what to look for?
