Hi I am after a bit of advice. In my day job I look after new industrial electric installations so domestic isn't my forte. A mate is after some help wiring his house which he is renovating. It was last rewired in the early 90's so has the old cable colours.

Question 1: The old CU has breakers from an age ago, this said they are in very good condition. They are all the old rating types such as type 2 and 3 rather than type B etc. I assume these are still acceptable for use?

Question 2: Most of the circuits will be removed and rewired, except for one ring circuit and garage feed. Of this ring he would like it extended. This is obviously going to then have the old and new harmonized colours. I know by adding a notice on the CU this can be acceptable but wanted to confirm with a house sparky.

Question 3: I have my old Robin KTS 1610 multifunction meter, is this still 17th edition compliant? I can't see no reason why it wouldn't be but wanted to clarify.

Cheers

1. yes
2. yes
3. Don't see why not, as long as it's recently calibrated

Certification and part pee are a must

As you are rewiring circuits you will need to comply with the current regs, so even though your exsisting CU is ok, RCD protection will now be required for cables conceiled in walls, and all socket outlets..Ohh and as above Part P
