Illuminated direction signs ( green running man ) fixed to the wall leading towards exits , should they be maintained or non-maintained ?

let the forum decide lol.

depends Biff, for example if there are Exit EMs in a school hall which is used out of hours for clubs and the like then Maintained needs to be installed for the entertainment licence.

I would tend to say the type and conditions of the installation would dictate this. I.E in a darkened hotel corridor i would tend to use maintained running man fixture, whereas in a reasonably well lit office open area with natural light i would probably side with a non-maintained fitting indicating the exit route. However the standard may specify a certain requirement for this situation. Not sure.

indeed there are no windows / natural light in these areas.

We have hundreds of these where I work and they are all maintained. My argument would be they help to identify the exit route better if illuminated. Power ain't necessarily tripped in an emergency situation.

If you fit them all as maintained you can't go wrong and it also lets the occupants know the condition of the lamps.

i work in a few schools on a regular basis and all of them are non-maintained.

you could always switch them with the normal lights, so they are maintained during the day and non maintained at night, if you know what I mean arry?
